Patient Info - Park Tudor

What is the purpose?

The purpose of this evaluation is to identify any significant developmental or behavioral factors which might need to be addressed in addition to preschool programming.

What to expect?

  • The examiner will greet you and your child in the waiting room. You may accompany your child to the testing room, where the examiner will then spend a few minutes interacting with your child to build rapport, ease any anxiety and to allow for a more comfortable separation.
  • It is recommended that parents observe the evaluation via video recording, although if your child has difficulty separating, you may stay in the room with him/her.
  • Your child and the examiner will sit at a small table and testing materials will be presented in a reciprocal fashion.
  • Short breaks may be taken depending on the motivation, attention and energy presented by your child.
  • After the testing is completed, you will be asked to wait a few minutes in the waiting room and the examiner will score the testing.
  • Once the testing is scored, the examiner will briefly (5 or 10 minutes) go over the results with you.

What is the test called?

The Mullen Scales of Early Learning will be administered to your child. It is solely a screening instrument and takes approximately 45 minutes to give. Subtests include visual reception, fine motor, receptive and expressive language. Average on this scale is very broad and the test will be used to rule out any developmental or behavioral concerns.

Will there be a report?

A report will be generated to inform you how your child performed during the evaluation. It will include background information, observation and test results. Age equivalents will correspond to each subtest with an overall range of your child’s testing performance. Again, it is emphasized that this instrument is a screening tool.

What if there are concerns?

If concerns are noted, the examiner will inform you after the evaluation and schedule a half-hour follow-up appointment to discuss any concerns and give recommendations. If you are interested in further evaluation for your child, you may schedule an appointment through Children's Resource Group and additional fees will be charged.
